slug bug!!!!!

Hey there, Happy Weekend!!!!

As promised, here is my other
2 Sketches 4 You Ultimate Card Showdown Top 30 card design.

When I was walking around a LSS I came across this very fun stuff by Paper Loft!! I'm partial to VW Beetles...well, I actually have a love/hate dealio with them. I use to be a proud owner of a 2001 lime green VW diesel New Beetle. When it was spending more time in the shop than on the road, I decided to trade it in....bummer...because the size was perfect-o for me and the mileage was spectacular. The other thing is that there are sooo many ginormous vehicles on the road that my little bug was always lost in the shuffle...the other drivers never seemed to see me, which is crazy based on the color!

Anywho's....back to the card and the reasoning behind not entering this one but going with my
Vintage Owl card. To be honest, I hadn't heard of the whole "Slug Bug" action until I actually bought my VW and saw {primarily} kids on the side of the road slugging whoever they were with after I buzzed by...I thought that it was odd and then a friend must have told me the scoop. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it was perhaps being raised in a Japanese household {both my folks were born in Japan} and we didn't do road trips...that's why I didn't know about it? Funny thing though, I took an informal poll at work and 2 out of 5 people didn't know about "slug bug".

So, being the curious person that I am....could you leave me a comment and let me know if you "get" my card or not?

First, I love your card, but much like you I had no idea of what "slug bug" was either. I grew up in a Latino household with parents who were not born in the US so not many road trips for us either.

All in all...it's lovely!!! I adore the DP...must get me some. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Fabulous card Amy loving these papers as for 'Slug Bug' bit new to me but think as children there were other things we did when the mini cooper drove past. We do love the bug and we have the Bug drive here. Have great weekend ♥ HuGs Kim

Slug Bug, sure! My mom drove a hunter green beetle when I was little. We didn't worry about silly stuff like car seats back then. I used to stretch out in that little grocery shelf behind the back seat and take naps on long trips.

oh yeah, I totally get it! And your card is adorable. I had an orange one, it was a '71....paid $1000 for it, drove it for 9 years and was hit by someone and got $1000 in the total claim. I had such fun with the whole slug bug count...that and the Vanagon...that's the squirm worm shout out!

cute, cute paper and your design, makes for this delightful card, Amy!

What an adorable card!!! Yep, I got it! My children taught me the meaning of slug bug many, many years ago! I so love that cute paper!
Love your card! Yes, I know about slug bug - but when it came time to teach my daugher (20 some years ago) I taught her that they were love bugs (so she wouldn't grow up hitting me!) and that she should blow a kiss! It was adorable!!!

Your card is so fun! I love the polka dotted bugs and the template is really good for this! Thanks for the lift!

Oh, Amy, this is adorable! I have that exact same beetle paper in that color! I think you are my paper-crafting twin! Of course, I'm flattering myself here! AND, I had a 2001 Beetle too! Mine was silver, but I kicked myself everyday after because I really wanted the lime green, but chickened out! lol!

Adorable card! And not only do I get slugbug! (aka punchbuggy [car color]!), my DH and I have started playing "smartcar [car color]!" So far he's ahead with 5, but I've recently tightened the gap I'm only one behind.

Forgot to add that I too had a VW...1972 cherry red. Man, I loved that car, even though it had a giant hole where the backseat floor should have been.

Thats so awesome you had a lime green car! I love all the pink and yes, I get your card. It reminds me of all the hits I got and gave for seeing a "slug bug."

Off topic...but yeah, I thought it was weird that Prima named that paper Peaches too, lol.

Love your card but have never heard of the term before. I have always loved beetles though, they have so much character.

I have an award on my blog for you :)

One Lovely Blog Award

Good luck in the 2S4U comp with your owl card :)

Ok Miss Amy....now I know why we get along so well - I own a 1998 VW New Beetle and I used to own a 1974 Bug way back when! :) I have a love/hate thing with it too! It's always in the shop too! It's white, but my old beetle was full-on yellow! And yes, I still used to get side swiped even with that paint job! LOL

But you know, I have never heard of slub bug. Here on the East Coast they say 'Punch Buggy' and whack each other when they see me coming! LOL

I would kill for paper like that!! Oh why do I live in the boonies!?!? I'm going to have to seek it out online and get some....never to be used of course! LOL

This is a great card Amy! Seriously, I don't know how you decided! :)

I totally get it, however, you know that I have a "SLUG PHOBIA", right? It's the biggest worst phobia ever...I mean I can't even look at one on tv, on a magazine page, and not even cute slug stamps...nope, no way!!

However, I adore the card - the paper is something I'll be looking for now (thanks to you, the enabler!) and I have the Elzybells stamp of the slug bug already...so who knows if I'll be a slug girl cardmaker soon...lol

Oh yes! I got "slugged" in the arm many a times by my older brother when I was growing up. But I'll have to admit it gave me great pleasure when I actually spotted a VW before him and slugged him right back!!
;o)

This paper is Adorable with a CAPITAL A !!! Love the pink & brown combo and those two buttons together are delish!!

But the ow card is Cute with a CAPITAL C so truly you just couldn't go wrong with either one!!!! I love them both!!! ♥♥ Kay

This card is a-dor-able. I totally get the slug-bug thing. But won't let my girls do the actual slugging part. Instead we "collect" points and whoever has the most is the winner.

We all do it, and Neal and the kids do it all the time. So with Neal sitting by my side right now, and he being the curious guy that he is, had to look it up on the computer to see where it all started. It's actually been around since the 60's when the car first came out!! Anyway, luv your card, I've been wanting a bug for a long time, but maybe I shouldn't now that I hear about all of the problems!

Peace and Luv,
Jeannie

what... are you kidding!?!?!? If you don't know Slug Bug then you are dead inside... no just kidding ; ) But i do get the card and remember LOVING that game as a kid. of course i could never hit as hard as my brother so I eventually ended up in tears.
I really like this card too. I dig the colors and the clear base. its a fun one, but so is the owl!

Love the card. Slug bug was huge in my family, second only to looking for "pididdles" (cars with one headlight). It would be cool to see polka dotted pink VWs....

I love your paper, your design, everything about it!!

But I don't get what "slug bug" is either... I'm a Malaysian Chinese and I've not heard what that term is until now!! :)

lol...I soo do get it...your card is just darling and I love your little story. This is something that we have played with all of our girls and our eldest is 27 years old even.

Here's the low down as we knew it when we were young.

1 punch for a regular one
2 punches for an older one with chrome bumper
3 punches for a VW van (old or new)

I grew up with 3 older brothers and they weren't so nice to my little sister and I. They hit hard...lol...DH and I play this with even ourselves...we love this game..

thanks for such a lovely card portraying a great memory/game...good luck on the contest..

Such a cute card. I love that dp and I'm going to have to go get some!

Yes, I totally get it. My brother and I played slug bug all the time, even just around town. After all, how often do you get to hit your sibling and get away with it because you're 'just playing a game' ;-D

Well, first of all, the card is fantastic! Slug Bug....hmmmm...I really don't get it. But..I did have a bug. It was a 1971 red bug and I loved it! But....I didn't know at the time that you had to put oil in a car and it died right in the middle of a busy intersection. I called her "fart blossom" because on take off she would spirt and spirt. Too fun!

Amy - too funny. Can't believe you had not heard the "SLUG BUG" slogan. Guess that means you have never heard of "PT BRUISER". :)
