Hero Arts: Butterflies Two Ways

So this weekend, on my to-do list was to design a graduation card, that one card became two:

While I was cleaning up I came across the Hero Arts DC134 Butterflies Stamp & Cut.  I thought that would be pretty to use for a female grad card and then teamed it up with DC149 Congrats Stamp & Cut.

To make the butterflies pop, I used the SA113 Every Which Way Stencil with Distress Oxide - Broken China.  I decided to minimally color the butterflies but made up for it by using glitter cardstock for the congrats.

This card was inspired by Fusion:

With the Butterflies Stamp & Cut still out, I popped a watercolor paper panel into my Mini MISTI and stamped the Butterflies in Distress Oxide - Broken China + Black Soot.

I used a wet paintbrush on the butterflies and quickly 'watercolored' them.  The yellow background was made with various Zig Clean Color Markers.  That sentiment from the Irreverent Birthday Messages CRACKS me up.  So totally unexpected for a butterfly design, don't you agree?

My card was inspired by CAS(E) this sketch!

My card duo was thoroughly inspired by the Twofer Card Challenge:

I need to play along more often with the Twofer Card Challenge!  I can always have one birthday design, something that I'm always wishing I had more of in my stash!

I really like the graphic look to those butterfly images, and LOVE how you used them on your two-fer card designs! That birthday one just makes me smile. Super cool watercolor effect with the Distress inks, and fabulous oxide stenciled background on your grad card, too. Love the touches of gold you added in. Awesome job!

Hmmm...I've got a girl graduation card to make....just might have to CASE yours! It's so cool! I would have never thought to use a butterfly on a graduation card, but it has such perfect symbolism - how darn clever of you!! And your design is impeccable. The colors, the stencil, the glittery gold all combine to make a great card, Amy! And that sentiment on your birthday card...perfect for so many of my family and friends, lol!! Such a fun birthday card. And I do love the yellow. Such a happy color. Thank you so very much for joining us at the Twofer Challenge! xo Bev

I love how light and airy your pretty designs are, Amy! That butterfly lends itself to that feeling and your minimal coloring is perfect to intensify it. They literally seem to be floating over the cards! Your border treatment and stenciling and gold schparkly "congrats" are all elements to make the graduate treasure your thoughtfulness! And your birthday card! Yes, OMG, this karaked me up! That fun sentiment is absolutely unexpected with such a pretty ladylike design! LOVE it!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #5!! Hugs, Darnell

The cool, graphic background is a wonderful foil for those delicate, fluttery butterflies on your graduation card, Amy ... the addition of the glitzy gold and dramatic stripes adds such great contrast! What a fun birthday card, delicious fresh colours ... and great detailing with the touch of pompom braid! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita :)
