Eat Cake First

I can't remember how I stumbled onto her Etsy site but you have got to check it out....

I love crowns...and I hit the jackpot when I found her Etsy site. I received my treasures yesterday...everything was wrapped up and tied with gorgeous ribbon. The pendants are packaged with her business card that says:

Eat Cake First

{How fun is that???}

Got M&M's?

This little pocket note card is what I made for my brother {I hope he's not reading this...}. It is a small token of my thanks for his latest bout of generosity. I should probably go ahead and send this card too since it was originally made for him....

I tend to forget about the sweet little Stampin' Up pocket notes. I think I'll use them to whip up some valentines. They are perfect if you don't need to send them postal, otherwise you would probably need to pop them into a larger envy to avoid them getting lost in the USPS shuffle. Since I was sending the M&M's too, I just dropped the pocket note into the shipping envy. My brother happened to notice all the bags of valentine's day M&M's I have {a valentine's day project for my son's classroom} so I decided to do the chocolate theme. His girlfriend is a HUGE choco-holic so I know she'll appreciate the small token of my thanks. They won't realize that I used my sacred Au Chocolate DP and gorgeous velvet ric rac (ala texasjodylynn)...that's what makes the card that much more special to me, kwim?

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' Up Oh So Sweet, Rubber soul
Paper: Stampin' Up Au Chocolate, Chocolate Chip & Chocolate Chip pocket note
Ink: VersaFine Vintage Sepia
Accessories: scallop punch, coluzzle, word window punch, velvet ric rac ala texasjodylynn, recycled misc beaded chain

January = Organization

I'm motivated to clean up my work space so that I might be able to adopt these wonderful Making Memories storage pieces....

Monday, January 28, 2008

It's the little things...

A couple weeks ago my brother gave me a ton of wood suit hangers. I promptly whipped out this card...perfect as my thank you to him. Well, yesterday I managed to adopt several items from him, a desk, a printer plus much more. Did I mention that I "forgot" to send out the card that I originally made for him? I found it when I was cleaning up my desk....I'll get to design another card for his newest bout of generosity.

Miss Washington

When I was younger I use to love watching all the beauty pageants. As an adult I haven't really paid much attention to them until recently. Miss Washington 2007, Elyse Umemoto, is my friend's niece. She is a beautiful girl that has a FABulous singing voice that will bring tears to your eyes. Some of her family/friends gathered together at a local restaurant to watch her on a big screen TV. Congratulations Elyse on placing 2nd runner up for Miss America!!

Friends & Good Times

Don't you love spending time with friends? I get together with a great group of gals at least once a month. Last night we celebrated a very belated birthday {hi P!}. What can be better than laughing so hard that tears roll down your face? I needed that.... Three of us ended the evening watching the movie Juno.

Wild Tres Chic

I simply love the Stampin' Up "in-color" Wild Wasabi. I'm slowly trying to accumulate the paper before they retire the color. This is a card that I've made for a very dear friend. I'm a super lucky girl to have such FABulous friends and I wanted to let this gal know how much I appreciate her.

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' Up Letterpress & Tres Chic
Paper: Stampin' Up Wild Wasabi, misc black

Accessories: Scallop punch, coluzzle, velvet ribbon, sakura stardust

Cameo Cupcake

This is my second birthday invite design for my DD. Here is the first one. Ordinarily I would not team up Cameo Coral and Green Galore but it started with my "cheater" card base from my original design ala Target $1 spot. It is quite the eye catching combo isn't it? Rylee has picked this card for her invites....

~recipe~

Stamps: Stampin' Up Tiny Talk, Lockhart & Rubber Soul
Paper: Stampin' up Cameo Coral & Green Galore, misc white & black
Ink: Stampin' Up Cameo Cora &, Green Galore, VersaFine Onyx Black
Accessories: Coluzzle, wide grosgrain, oval punches, quickie glue, dazzling diamonds, bling, Aquapainter

Look for the Gifts...

I enjoy blurfing and happened to stumble across the site Higher Awareness. I signed up to receive their daily inspirations and thought I would share this one with you:

Look for the gifts

"In school you get the lesson and then take the test ... In life you take the test and then get the lesson."
-- Unknown Source

"When it is dark enough, you can see the stars."
-- Charles Beard

How is a problem in your life really an opportunity?

Problems invite us to go inside to recognize a bigger picture of ourselves and of life. This bigger picture brings meaning to what is unfolding. When you feel trapped in a problem, see if you can shift your perspective. Ask yourself, “What is my soul inviting me to learn from this situation?” The answer will always revolve around a quality or value, like gratitude, freedom, compassion, love, will, humour or acceptance. The answer will also always promote union rather than separation.

As soon as we find the meaning in our challenge, our resistance to it melts away. Often, awareness of the lesson is all that is needed to resolve the problem. If not, the awareness brings us courage and ways to work through it.

"The period of greatest gain in knowledge and experience is the most difficult period in one’s life."
-- Dalai Lama

"Out of clutter, find Simplicity. From discord, find Harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
-- Albert Einstein

Cheater Cupcake

I typically do not buy cards...I just can't justify the purchase with my vast inventory of paper products, stamps and embellishments. I could not pass up these blank Target note cards. They were in the $1 bin, 8 cards for $1! They are not high quality paper but hey, 8 for $1?! I call this card my Cheater Cupcake because of the store bought card...I actually made 2 designs. They are in anticipation of my DD's March birthday. She likes my "other" design that I will post tomorrow. She picked out both the stamps that were used on the card when we were at the Rubber Soul over the weekend. TFL!

~recipe~
Stamps: Lockhart, Rubber Soul
Paper: Target "cheater" note card
Ink: VersaFine Onyx Black, Sakura glitter pen, Stampin' Up Cameo Coral and Green Galore markers.
Accessories: coluzzle, Heidi Swapp distresser, Aquapainter, quickie glue pen, Dazzling Diamonds, bling

Princess Birthday Crown

This is the second design for my Princess Party invites. There is a 3.5 inch square card adhered to the back of the crown. It is plenty of room to write a birthday greeting to her majesty. I will revamp this crown for my daughter Rylee's upcoming birthday. I think that you'll be seeing more of these but much more glittery and sparkly. I love crowns and over the next couple days I'll share some great deals on things that I have tapped into. For now, here are the deets for the Birthday Crown:

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' up Letterpress
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Basic Grey and misc white cs
Ink: Wild Wasabi
Accessories: Circle scallop punch, coluzzle

A Magical Lizzie Card...

I was asked to design invites for a "Princess Party". This is a treat for me since Princess Parties are long gone in my household. The A Muse Lizzie image was one that I recently adopted via the buy/sell/trade board on Splitcoaststampers. I used the aquapainter on her dress so that it matches the Wasabi cardstock. I glitzed her dress up with my Quickie Glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds. Her crown, wand and shoes were colored in with Sakura glitter pens....what is a princess without glitter?! The "a MAGICAL day" oval has been edged with a Sakura stardust pen.

~recipe~
Stamps: A Muse
Paper: Basic Grey, Stampin' Up Wild Wasabi & misc black
Ink: VersaFine Black Onyx, Stampin' Up So Saffron & Wild Wasbi, Sakura Pens
Accessories: Oval Scallop punch, coluzzle, oval punch, aquapainter & Signo white gel pen

Woof!

I love personality quizzes...this fun one was recently passed along to me
{thanks P!}:

Give it a try......this is my test results:

Woof woof! You're a Collie! No bones about it, you're a loyal, nurturing Collie. A sensitive breed, you're always approachable and very in tune with others' feelings -- just like Lassie! Because of your empathetic nature, you tend to be the group psychologist to your circle of friends. Your faithful, easy-going, steadfast personality makes you a wonderful confidant; people love to come to you with their troubles. Bottom line? You're a star at interpersonal relationships and have a knack for making new friends and acquaintances wherever you go. After all, what's a Collie without a flock to look after? Since you're so giving, your buddies might not realise that you need them just as much as they need you, so make sure not to neglect yours truly. Everyone deserves some "me" time. Woof!

"Recycled"

This photo frame was recycled into a jewelry board. It no longer had the glass in it. I originally thought of making it a bulletin board but after seeing this by Splitcoaststamper rohla, I decided to alter it into a well used jewelry board. If you are not a Splitcoast member or a subscriber to their fabulous fan club, you may not be able to view rohla's project. She posted it for December's {fan club member's only} Mission Impossible Gallery.

A Muse{d}

A couple weeks ago I scored on a great lot of A Muse stamps. I haven't uploaded the pictures here and thought I would share....I have been slowly collecting A Muse stamps and gladly adopted 40 new {at least to me!} ones. Actually they all looked brand spankin' new! My stamp collection is primarily Stampin' Up but I've always loved the *sweetness* of the A Muse images. I usually have a ton of "things" stuffed into my Store in Style desk organizer but decided to display my newly blossoming collection so that I can get to know them and use them {lol}.

I've been asked to design "Princess" birthday party invitations so you'll see some cards using the Lizzie image soon...

Love being A Muse{d}!

Amy Butler

On Friday I happened to put this most fabulous card into my "favorites" folders on Splitcoaststampers. It is a wonderful card by markie's mom. She designs what looks to be the most labor intensive pieces of work....they are always over the top stunning. When I read the deets about that particular card it took me to the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge. IC110 is based on gorgeous fabric by Amy Butler. It's funny, I was thinking it was "calling my name". Long story short, look what I ended up buying at the Rubber Soul shop on Saturday. I've always loved this bag but didn't realize until I got it home that evening that it is ala Amy Butler!

The bag ended up being a great way to carry out all my wonderful purchases from Rubber Soul. It can hold a TON of things {I added a bunch of stuff to my current "inventory"} and will be great for me to lug all my crafty stuff around. Sadly, Rubber Soul is closing their Redmond location but they had a magnificent sale on the day that I was there.

You Take the Cake ala A Muse

As I look as this card, I'm thinking that I may revise it {see below}. It will actually be the second time...I originally designed the card without the Making Memories Cosmo paisley paper, I added that after the card was initially put together. The pendant flag shaped tag is inspired by Julie Ebersole {JulieHRR - Splitcoaststampers} via her most fabulous blog, Paper Trufflez. I will probably color in the cake and glitterize it....but here it is:

~recipe~

Stamps: A Muse and Flourishes
Paper: Making Memories Cosmo, Stampin' up Chocolate Chip
Ink: VersaFine Vintage Sepia
Accessories: striped grosgrain ribbon, rectangular scallop punches

Okay, I had to revise the card TODAY..lol..much beh-tah!

You Rock!

In an attempt to venture out of my comfort zone, I picked up the DCWV Rockstar paper stack. It is filled with FABulous patterns...this is my first card using the paper. I actually bought the 8x8 stack and my card is 9.25" tall. I strategically sliced the Rockstar panel in the middle and placed the stamped twill tape to hide the gap. I'm so glad that I picked up the Colorbok metal dots {Joann's $1 buy!}. I think it really adds a ton to the card...

Pink Glittery Swirly Cake

What girl doesn't like a pink, glittery, swirly cake? I have been getting my money's worth on the lot of A Muse stamps that I recently adopted....I orginally designed this card without coloring the cake, that is what I usually do when I use my Fabriano cards. I decided to glitterize this one and use Stickles on the candle flames. I'm quite pleased with the change of pace.

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' Up Warm Words, A Muse Swirly Cake
Paper: Fabriano
Ink: VersaFine Vintage Sepia, Stampin' Up Pixie Pink
Accessories: Aqua Painter, Dazzling Diamonds, Quickie Glue, Stickles

Got Chocolate?

I enjoy designing chocolate cards...who doesn't like chocolate? I have a gazillion sheets of designer paper and I seem to keep reaching for my Making Memories Cosmo line, it cracks me up. It will be something I will work on for the next couple of months...in addition to branching out on the stamps that I use, I'll use my neglected designer paper. I just picked up the DCWV Rockstar paper stack. You should see that within the next couple of days... For the time being, here is another Valentine's Day card.... The "Got Chocolate?" stamp is ala Rubber Soul. I was sad to hear that they are closing their Redmond shop.

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' Up Oh So Sweet, Rubber Soul
Paper: Stampin' Up Pretty in Pink and Making Memories Cosmo
Ink: VersaFine Vintage Sepia

It is the last day of work for my cubicle neighbor. He is off to a new job...a great opportunity. Do you see what I see?

I picked up the A Muse Party Time set. All the images are fun but I was particularly drawn to the one I used on this card. Most people will see a crock pot. What do I see? I see a rice cooker! It had me chuckling to myself as I was looking at the set in the oh-so-adorable A Muse shop in Seattle. Okay, okay.....I'm easily A Muse(d)......LOL

Sweet Valentine

Just yesterday I posted that I wasn't much of a "heart" girl and here I am posting "heart" cards. Isn't this asian heart image fabulous? It is compliments of Hero Arts. If I remember correctly I bought it from someone on Splitcoaststampers. I have a love/hate relationship with SCS. Splitcoaststampers is such a wealth of inspiration but I can't pass up a good deal. I've decided to stop looking on their buy/sell/trade board after recently scoring on a motherload of gently used {mostly new} A Muse stamps. It has me motivated to try to sell some Stampin' Up sets that are horribly neglected. I should do that as a separate blog entry..anyways here are the deets for this Asian Valentine along with another Sweet Valentine:

~recipe~
Stamps: Stampin' Up Asian Poetry, Hero Arts
Paper: Stampin' Up Ruby Red, Misc black
Ink: Stampin' Up Ruby Red, VersaFine Onyx Black
Accessories: Velvet ribbon and bling

Who can resist this sweet heart in pink?

My Cosmo Friend...

One of my favorite color combinations is pink and brown. I still have quite the stash of Making Memories Cosmo which looks fabulous with the jumbo Prima flower! I think that I may revise the card and look for a wider organdy ribbon, preferrably a wired one. Hmmm.... you would think that I would have that in my "inventory" but I think I need to make a trip to the store this weekend!

I've always loved the Stampin' Up Mon Ami set. I'm not much of a "heart" girl but love the diversity of this particular group of images.

Paper: misc ivory, MM Cosmo

If the shoe fits...

buy all 4 of them!

I'm making an effort to ink up stamps that are lonely and haven't seen the light of day. These cards use Dawn Houser's line of stamps ala Inkadinkado. The set is named "Fancy Feet"....love the images. I think they are perfect with Onyx Black ink on the Fabriano's....I promise to do "busy" cards this weekend. I have been on the "Clean & Crisp" kick lately...

A Muse & Fabriano

What a great pair, A Muse stamps & Fabriano note cards...I had the opportunity to go to the A Muse Retail shop on Monday. It is super cute and I was able to bring home a bunch of fun stuff. I also scored on an A Muse lot of stamps from Splitcoaststampers...can't wait until those arrive! The image I used on this card is an oldie but a goodie...has always been one of my favorites!
