Maneki Neko

I was digging around my stamps and found this one...decided to dust it off and use it! There is a ton of information about the Maneki Neko. Here is what I found on Wikipedia:

The Maneki Neko (literally "Beckoning Cat"; also known as Welcoming Cat, Lucky Cat, Money cat or Fortune Cat) is a common Japanese sculpture, often made of porcelain or ceramic, which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The sculpture depicts a cat (traditionally a Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed in stores, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. A raised right paw supposedly attracts money, while a raised left paw attracts customers.

Celebrating You...

I made these for a friend's birthday {hi elsie!}. Last night was her birthday party at Maggiano's in Bellevue. I did not get to see the restaurant but the banquet room was really lovely... It is always fun to spend time with friends to celebrate a birthday! I tucked a Nordy's gift card into her birthday card. What can be better than retail therapy?

A Good Day...

In previous years I would spend the day after Christmas shopping. This year I only went to one store...Target. I was unusually conservative in my purchases but am quite pleased with my great deals.

Lately I have been smitten by glass glitter so I was thrilled to find glass glitter ornaments at Target at 50% off!

Little Book of Memories

I ended up making another coaster album yesterday. I literally made it before leaving for my Mom's house....The textured pattern paper that I used is from the DCWV Far East slab. One of the pages uses a snowflake that I inked up so it wasn't so white. I hijacked it from a store bought card that I received from a friend....that's okay right? Similar to my other coaster album, this is double sided with wallet photos taken throughout the year.

Merry Christmas!!

Happy Christmas Eve!

I can't believe that it is Christmas Eve already...I think I may brave the shopping crowds {if I can find a parking spot!}. I'm excited to say that I bought a Janome "Sew Mini" Sewing Machine this morning. It has been getting rave reviews on Splitcoaststampers. I will be using it specifically for paper crafting but eventually would love to learn to sew.

I absolutely love how our tree turned out. We decided to keep it "clean & simple" this year. Only 2 different styles of ornaments, glittery snowflakes and mercury glass flowers (with the exception of a glittery fleur de lis that I picked up in Vancouver!).

I'm happy to say that all my gifts are wrapped....I still need to create some gifts but as I've mentioned before, I do better under pressure.

Bashful Snowflake

Friday was my my last day of work until January 2nd. I'll work from home a bit and will end up going into work at least 1 day during the holidays but it is so nice to have some time off. That being said, on Friday morning I cranked out 12 of my Bashful Snowflake cards along with a couple handfuls of the wrapped chocolates....there is nothing like procrastinating!

Basic Grey and Letterpress

One of my favorite Stampin' Up alphabets is Letterpress. I was really surprised to hear that they recently retired it from their catalog. It is such a versatile font to work with. This card was one that I made for a gal at work. I'm not much of a navy gal but absolutely love how Basic Grey teamed it up with the gorgeous green!

O Christmas Tree...

I'm on the "slow" schedule this holiday season. Since I was hostessing a Holiday Gift Fair two Saturday's in a row earlier this month, it really delayed a great deal of my Christmas decorating. I finally have a tree {thanks Mike!}..... I hope to put up more exterior lights sometime this permitting and we'll finish decorating the tree on Tuesday. I just had to at least pop some lights on it tonight.

Sometimes it is all about the pattern paper that a girl uses....this is a card that uses the very fabulous Basic Grey Blush line. Other paper crafter's can appreciate the fact that I only bought 4 sheets of Basic Grey Blush...only 4 sheets...such control. This is a belated birthday card for a dear friend. I stamped an upper case "B" and then used a circle punch....I wrote "belated" with my tempting turquoise marker and then inked up the edges...the lovely ribbon is compliments of a RABOM *enabler alert* on Splitcoaststampers. I can't pass up a good deal....

Asian Flair

This was made for my brother Lester. We celebrated his birthday last night and the big surprise for him is that our brother Jimmy was there to help celebrate! Jimmy travelled from North Carolina to help with the festivities. Since Lester has become a collector of Asian art {compliments of our Dad}, I thought this particular image was perfect for him.

I was pretty proud of myself last night. I managed to proactively design and create a card that Rylee needed for Saturday. Typically I'm frantically trying to put something together the day of the party. Luckily, the birthday girl's Mother mentioned that her daughter loves anything Parisian. When I learned that about the birthday girl, I knew that I was going to use the Cavallini Paris set. I am a huge fan of anything that Cavallini & Co. designs. I especially love their stamp sets. I recently picked up the Natural Wonders set but see that they have a Bonjour set that is "calling my name".

I continue to dig into my card archives. One of my favorite colors to use on my cards is chocolate chip. It is such a versatile to team it up with blues, greens or pinks. My inspiration for this card is one that was created by rohla from Splitcoaststampers. She does absolutely amazing work!! I saw her Winged Thank You and did my take on her card.

Thank You Pocket Card

The inspiration for this card is the fabulous trudee on Splitcoaststampers. I really liked how she incorporated the pocket in her square card. My dear friend bought me a top out of the blue and I wanted to thank her. I popped the very cute tag that came with the top {looked very basic grey'ish} in the pocket of the card. I love the stitching that trudee's card has but I don't have a sewing machine {yet} and started to use the piercing to do faux stitching and well, got lazy....
